DATO' MICHELLE YEOH ( DARSINI & AZIEMAH )

Dato’ Michelle Yeoh was born on August 6, 1962 in the state capital of Perak, Malaysia. Born as Yang Zi Chong in the mining town of Ipoh in West Malaysia in the lunar year of the Tiger. She spoke English and Malay before Chinese. Furthermore, she is a ballet dancer since the age of four. After some time, she moved to London, England to study at the Royal Academy as a teenager. After a brief dance career, she won the Miss Malaysia beauty pageant title in her native country and the Miss Moomba beauty pageant title in Melbourne, Australia in the early 1980’s. Her first on camera work was a 1984 commercial with martial arts star Jackie Chan. In 1985, she began making action movies with D&B Films of Hong Kong. She was first billed as Michelle Khan, then later, Michelle Yeoh. Never a trained martial artist, she relied on her dance discipline and her on-set trainers to prepare for her martial arts action scenes.
She uses many dance moves in her films. She still does most of her own stunts and has been injured many times. Ironically, she still cannot read Chinese and she has to have Chinese script read to her. In 1988, she married wealthy D&B Films executive
Dickson Poon and retired from acting. Even though they divorced in 1992, she is close to Poon's second wife and a godmother to Poon's daughter. When she returned to acting, she became very popular to Chinese audiences and she became known to western audiences through her co-starring roles in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997, which she had earned about $2,500,000 and in the phenomenally successful Wo Hu Cang Long in 2000 aka Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' directed by Ang Lee. She turned down a role in a sequel to The Matrix in 1999.She has her own production company, Mythical Films and has trained with the Shen Yang Acrobatic team for her role in The Touch in 2002, an English language film she is both starring in and producing. She hopes to use her company to discover and nurture new filmmaking talent. She also wants to act in roles that combine both action and deeper spiritual themes.

WHAT HAS DATO' MICHELLE YEOH DONE TO MANKIND?
We are proud of Michelle. She brings fame to Ipoh. Thus, she was awarded the Darjah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) on 19th April 2001 by Sultan Azlan Shah, the Sultan of Perak. Since that, we would like to call her as Dato Michelle Yeoh. Although Michelle is busy with her career, she still pays regular visits to Ipoh when having holidays and festivals such as the Chinese New Year. Just because Ipoh is her lovely hometown.

Datuk Michelle Yeoh has contributed many things to mankind. As the Force of Nature Aid Foundation (FON) goodwill ambassador, sha has lauched a public awareness campaign on December 26, 2005 to commemorate the first anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami that destroyed vast coastal areas bordering the Indian Ocean, killing nearly 300,000 people and left over 1.5 million people homeless.

WHY DATO' MICHELLE YEOH?

We chose Dato’ Michelle Yeoh because she is very ambitious and beautiful as she was subsequently crowned as Miss Malaysia at the age of 21. Furthermore, she is a very talented actress. Though she looks stunning in an evening gown, she has kicked and punched her way to become Asia’s most famous female action star. Besides, she has won many awards such as The Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) (Cultural Achievement) by JCI (Junior Chamber International), Trophee du Festival de Cannes, Cannes International Film Festival, 2009 and Achievement Award, Marrakech International Film Festival, 2008. All her achievements had inspired almost everyone including us. In addition to that, we chose her because she has done many charity such as Ambassador to Force of Nature Aid Foundation, Malaysia and Ambassador to Mercy Malaysia, Malaysia. Moreover, Dato’ Michelle is not an ordinary actress as she performs her own dangerous stunts in the movie that she is acting in. She is also not afraid to ride a motorcycle on to a moving train. We are very proud of her and want to become like her in the future.Dato Michelle Yeoh is someone Malaysians can be truly proud of. Despite her fame and fortune, she has not forgotten her roots. Though she travels all over the world, there is only one place she calls home-Malaysia.

  1. I see you have adopted some of the texts taken from the textbook, nonetheless not too bad except for the typo here and there.
